The Rising Sun Arts Centre

1920s Tea Dance at the Rising Sun

In September the Rising Sun Arts Centre in Reading held one of their regular 1920s tea dances, a wonderfully nostalgic afternoon.  I set up a temporary portrait studio to take old fashioned portraits of the dancers and band with a vintage touch.  It was a great event, with fabulous dance music by Rhapsodaisical, homemade cakes and gallons of tea.  There was also a dance class for the novices, and some amazing 1920s style outfits.  Charleston hen parties and first dance choreography are also available.

The portraits were very simple, with sitters adopting classic flapper poses, and I then added vintage textures to age the images.  Each image is unique, with textures and poses chosen to suit the personality of the sitters.

I had a great time and would love to work on similar events in the future.

Henley Farmers Market

Recently I enjoyed taking pictures at a new Farmers' Market event held at the Hotel du Vin in Henley on Thames.  We were lucky to have stunning weather in a beautiful setting, and I really enjoyed meeting all the exhibitors and trying their wares.

The products were locally produced and all delicious, including Quince Products; Brown Sugar Bakery and Chiltern Valley Wine and Brewery. There is some amazing food produced in this area, it was a treat to try it and photograph the event.

Reading Real Ale and Jazz Festival

Last weekend I offered to take pictures at the Reading Real Ale and Jazz Festival - an annual fundraising event held in Christchurch Meadows on the banks of the Thames. I took several pictures of the event as a record of the day for the organisers and their website.

It was a great day, and a really good opportunity to take pictures at an event.  I enjoyed taking photographs of the Jazz bands, venue and some of the guests.  We were very lucky to have beautiful weather and delicious food and ales.
