Happy New Year again!
I can’t believe it takes me a whole year to get round to writing a blog these days, it’s been another unbelievably busy one and I simply haven’t had time to work on my website, not to mention admin and the dreaded tax return!
The Twixtmas week seems like the best time to sit and look back on the events of the last 12 months, and as for so many of us, 2025 really has been pretty awful from start to finish. On a personal level it’s probably been the toughest year of my life - at the end of March, the second worst thing that happened was being burgled and losing my entire camera kit, my computer and my partner’s car. It was an absolutely horrible experience, and I recommend that you double check your insurance small print, as my insurance company refused to cover my claim and handled the case so appallingly that I had to make a complaint. Luckily the burglars left behind my hard drives and I had back ups so I didn’t lose a lot of my work. I was also lucky enough to have some savings and the support of my very kind family and so I was able to get back on my feet quite quickly.
I replaced my beloved Canon 5D mkivs with the new Canon r6mkii and I do love them, although perhaps not as much as my old kit (don’t talk to me about my beautiful 85mm lens!). The r6 is a great little camera, and much lighter than the 5D so my back thanks them! They have been very reliable at the many events I have shot this year, and great to work with.
For the rest of the year I have had to work extremely hard to cover the replacement kit and to get back to a sort of normality. Luckily I have some wonderful, supportive clients who have kept me super busy all year. I’ve enjoyed photographing many events, weddings, properties and products and made it through the rest of the year relatively unscathed. A small selection of the thousands of shots from this year are below in no particular order!
We did manage to take a short holiday at the end of the year and had a lovely time in Ilfracombe with our dog, but I’ve been so busy since then I haven’t had time to look at the photos so perhaps if I get a chance I will write another blog!
I’m not really one for making new year’s resolutions but in 2026 I am determined to take more breaks and try to pay less attention to the news, which I’m sure has been very hard on everyone’s mental health this year. I hope that this year will be better for everyone, I wish you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year!
Big hugs,
